It is the number one priority of Wilkes Communications Inc., a subsidiary of Wilkes Telephone Membership Corporation, to add value to the lives of those in communities in which we serve. We believe in service, relationships, and community.
Since 1951, Wilkes Telephone Membership Corporation has provided communication services to Wilkes County. In recent years, we have rebranded ourselves as Wilkes Communications, a broadband company. River Street Networks, also a subsidiary of Wilkes Telephone Membership Corporation, caters to our customers outside of Wilkes County; and River Street Productions is our full in-house video production studio.
As a family of businesses, the services we provide may have grown and changed for the better, but the way we do business has not. We are owned by our members and are fully committed to providing the best service possible.
In 1949, what started as a group of local Wilkes County citizens petitioning to Central Telephone Company for phone service, has evolved into a much larger communications company offering traditional home telephone, high speed internet, digital TV over a Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network, as well as safety and security systems with Wilkes Security. In 1951, representatives of the North Carolina and Federal REA began the process of officially forming this rural telephone cooperative. The 23 people that gathered to attend this meeting, will always be a part of the great things Wilkes Communications, Inc. has done, and will continue to do.
The communications industry is always undergoing tremendous changes, and Wilkes Communications, Inc. is dedicated to providing our members with the latest technological advancements and services available.
Being a part of the community is more than just providing service to the people who live here. Wilkes Communications, Inc. is committed to supporting the people and organizations that aim to make Wilkes County a strong place to live and work. In 2002, we wanted to help ensure that the future of the county remains just as strong as its past. We developed a scholarship program; and since its start, more than $185,000 has been awarded to local high school seniors.
Our members also play a role in helping the community, through their contributions that benefit the organizations that we support. Each year, Wilkes Communications holds a Food Drive and all of the food donated is given to local food banks. Also, Communities in Schools has an annual “Stuff the Bus” charity, and with the help of the collections from Wilkes Communications Inc., Communities in Schools are able to spread their resources further. During the holiday season, our desire to serve does not stop. Each holiday season, a child’s Christmas Day is made brighter from donations to our Winter Toy Drive. We love to help the community in as many ways as possible, and because of our loyal members, we have the privilege of being a part of something so grand!
Our primary focus is customer satisfaction. With all of the continuing changes in the Communications Industry, we want to ensure that your needs are met and that we surpass your expectations.
