The North Carolina Utilities Commission and the Federal Communications Commission have established a program to make telephone service more affordable. Under this plan, qualified low-income telephone customers can receive a discount on monthly local telephone service.
Current recipients of Medicaid, Federal Public Housing or Section 8 Assistance (FPHA), Food & Nutrition Services (Food Stamps), National School Lunch Free Lunch Program, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Aid to Needy Families or Work First qualify for the program. There can only be one Lifeline Discount per household. Having multiple discounts could result in the loss of one or all discounts.
How to Apply for this Program?
You can download the application for the Lifeline discount by clicking here or stop by the office and see a Customer Service Representative. Complete the application in its entirety and return the form to the office. Be sure to have proof of eligibility available for a Representative to verify. The discount will be added to service effective the first day of the following month.
