Statement of Non-Discrimination
Wilkes Telecommunications is the recipient of Federal financial assistance from the Rural Electrification Administration, an agency of the U. S. Depart of Agriculture and is subject to the provisions of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, as amended and the rules and regulations of the U. S. Department of Agriculture which provide that no persons in the United States on the basis of race color national origin, age or handicap shall be excluded from participation in, admission or access to denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any of this organizations programs or activities.
The person responsible for coordinating this organization’s non-discrimination compliance efforts is C. E. Ritenour, Jr. , General Manager. Any individual, or specific class of individuals, who feels that this organization has subjected them to discrimination may obtain further information about the statutes and regulations listed above from and/or file a written complaint with this organization; or the Secretary, U. S. Department of Agriculture, Washington, DC 20250; or the Administrator, Rural Electrification Administration, Washington, DC 20250. Complaints must be filed within 180 days after the alleged discrimination. Confidentiality will be maintained to the extent possible.
Telephone Fraud
It is unlawful to obtain or attempt to obtain telecommunication service by use of false, fictitious or counterfeit telephone number or telephone credit number. It is unlawful to charge telephone calls to the telephone number or credit number of another person without valid authority. Avoiding or attempting to avoid payment for telecommunication service by use of any fraudulent scheme, device, means or method is prohibited by law (NC General Statute 14-113.1- 113.7a).
It is unlawful to defraud a telephone company for interstate telephone service by means of any scheme; charging toll calls to the number of another subscriber without lawful authority; or charging toll calls to a false and fictitious telephone credit number. Penalty: Fine of not more than $1,000.00 or imprisonment of not more than 5 years or both (Felony) (Title 18, US Code, Ch 63, S 1343).
Maintenance
All ordinary expense of maintenance and repair of lines to the customer’s premises is to be borne by the Company. Inside wiring and telephone equipment inside the customer’s premises are the customers responsibility. We do test and repair telephone sets, which are repairable, that are brought to the telephone company.
Damage to Company Property
A reward will be paid for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of any person or persons for the willful damage, destruction or theft of telephone company property or assets. Notify your nearest law enforcement officer or the telephone company.
Tariffs
Allowance for failure of service: The telephone company cannot guarantee uninterrupted working of its equipment. In case service is interrupted, other than by negligence or willful act of the subscriber, an adjustment will, upon application of the subscriber, be made in the amount of the charges for such service, equipment and facilities furnished as are rendered useless or inoperative. Any adjustment shall apply only to the period the interruption continues beyond the 48 hours after notice of the interruption is received by the telephone company. No adjustment will be allowed if subscriber requesting such adjustment did not report the outage to proper authorities regardless of duration of outage. No other liability shall in any case attach to the telephone company.
Entering Customer Premises & Right of Way
The company’s representatives shall at all times have the right to be on the property of the customer for the purpose of making connections or to inspect and repair lines and, upon termination of service, for the purpose of removing such lines.
Telephone Safety
The telephone is one of the safest appliances in your home or office; however, telephone users should be cautious in some instances:
• Do not use the telephone while you are in the bathtub, shower, or swimming pool.
• Avoid using the telephone during electrical storms in your immediate area.
• If you suspect a gas leak, report it immediately but use a telephone away from the area in question.
Telephone Directory
Every effort is made to make the directory as accurate a possible. The company, however, assumes no liability for damages arising from errors or omissions in making up or printing of this directory. Please report any incorrect listings by calling the business office promptly.
Telephone Numbers
The customer has no property right in the telephone number or any right to continuance of service through any certain central Office and the telephone company may change the telephone number of the Central Office designation whenever it deems it desirable in conducting its business
Telephone used for Business Purposes
A telephone number which is used substantially for business purposes or is advertised in connection with the sale of products or services will be billed at the business rate.

Advertising Telephone Numbers
The corporation reserves the right to change the number of any subscriber. All telephone numbers are the property of the corporation. The rapid expansion of the telephone system often requires the changing of these numbers. For this reason, stationary, signs, cards and other advertising literature should not be printed in large quantities.
