Notice to Subscribers

Wilkes Telecommunications has been the local telephone company serving areas in Wilkes County since 1958. Wilkes Telecommunications was created by local citizens to bring basic telephone services to rural areas of Wilkes County and at time when none existed, owing to the higher costs and lack of profits in serving rural areas of North Carolina.

Wilkes Telecommunications has served, and endeavors to continue to serve, both residential and commercial customers in its rural communities with quality telecommunications services at competitive rates.

In addition to basic telephone and long distance services, Wilkes Telecommunications brings advanced telecommunications services to its rural communities, including cellular service, Internet access, high speed data services, special calling features and voice mail. Several components comprise Wilkes Telecommunications’ basic services, which at a minimum include:

• Single party voice grade access to the public network including unlimited local calls
• TelTouch Service
• Access to Emergency 911 services
• Access to operator services
• Access to directory assistance
• Access to long distance carriers
• Toll limitation services

These services are available to all consumers of Wilkes Telecommunications. The costs associated with each are reflected each month on the regular telephone bill along with other charges for services provide by Wilkes Telecommunications. The services listed here are only those that Wilkes Telecommunications must offer and advertise in order to be eligible for federal and state funding that is used to help offset the high cost of serving rural areas and bring affordable telephone services to residents and businesses of those areas.

This notification is in compliance with federal and state rules relative to obligations of “eligible telecommunications carriers” under the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
