Eric Cramer - President & CEO

Mr. Cramer began working for Wilkes Communications in January of 2005 when he was hired as the company’s CFO and he was then promoted to CFO and Assistant General Manager of August of that same year. On March 1, 2010 Eric Cramer was named Chief Executive Officer of Wilkes Communications. He now has over 17 years of experience in the telecommunications industry.

Prior to coming to Wilkes he worked as a Telecom Consultant for a firm located in Greenbelt Maryland for over eight years working with small rural telecom companies like Wilkes Communications all across the country specializing in financial and strategic management and planning.

“I am very proud to say that we have been part of something special here at Wilkes Communications and due to our dedicated workforce we have been able to and will continue to provide quality, affordable telecommunications services coupled with excellent customer service from a local company you know and trust. It is very rewarding to be working at a company where all of the proceeds go right back into the local community we serve as we are locally owned by our members,” says Cramer.

Mr. Cramer represents Wilkes Communications by serving in the community as well. He currently serves locally on the boards of Wilkes Regional Medical Center, Wilkes Economic Development Corp. (Wilkes EDC), United Way of Wilkes, Wilkes Circles of Care, the Better Business Bureau of North West NC and the Wilkes County Chamber of Commerce. Cramer is VP of the Youth Leadership program at the Chamber where he has been actively involved for over six years in working with Wilkes County high school students in conjunction with Wilkes County Schools. The program is called UTA or United Teens In Action where four students from each high school, chosen by the principal, work on a project that they choose to help improve life in Wilkes County. Mr. Cramer also represents Wilkes Communications on various state, regional and national telecommunications related boards and committees one of which being FRS or the Foundation for Rural Services where Wilkes Communications has been able to couple FRS sponsored scholarship along with the annual Wilkes Communications program. Wilkes Communications over the years has also sponsored numerous Wilkes County high school students for the FRS Youth Tour to Washington DC.

Mr. Cramer is originally from Crofton Maryland and holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, and graduate degrees including a Master of Science in Technology Management and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) – both from the University of Maryland.

“I feel our company is one of the most efficient and progressive in the state let alone the country and has already completed an extensive all IP upgrade to our core network,” says Cramer. Wilkes Communications is currently in the process of a complete over-build of our copper cable plant to provide advanced fiber optic service to all of our current customers. The company is 74% all Fiber to their customers and plans to be 100% complete by March 2015 if not sooner. Cramer feels that over the past several years the company has done very well and has moved into providing new services including Digital TV with High Definition Channels and DVR, as well as Home Security, Medical Alert and Fire Monitoring.

Wilkes’ has expanded their operations and is now providing service for businesses and residents living in the Town of North Wilkesboro and Wilkesboro. “Our goal is to continue to bring cutting edge technology to the residents of Wilkes County and invest heavily in the local infrastructure to help people connect to the world, educate themselves to learn and grow and engage in business, says Cramer.”
